Aussies strong again

After India won the concluding CB series many, including myself, were tempted to think that the Aussie World dominance, atleast in the ODIs has finally come to an end. Not so fast. I just checked their lineup against the WI and it consists of some pretty good replacements for the likes of Gilchrist, McGrath etc.

Shaun Marsh is a more than adequate replacement for Gilchrist at the top and although Haddin doesnt belong in his predecessor's class as a batsman, he's a handy no.6 or 7 (will play at no.7 when Hayden returns). Shane Watson is the best allrounder in the game today and can bat at any position although the Aussies will be tempted to use him as an opener. Ponting, Hussey, Clarke and Symonds make a very formidable middle-order. Actually they have an embarassment of riches in batting. Names such as David Hussey and Luke Pomersbach are merely reserves.

The bowling is in the capable hands of Lee, Bracken and Johnson. Cameron White, Symonds, Hopes, Watson etc provide a lot of options for the 4th and 5th bowlers. If the name of the game isnt T20, then I expect this lineup to win Australia's 4th consecutive World Cup even if it loses one or two of the older guys such as Hayden between now and 2011.
