This is probably late news, but Google's released a browser to compete with the IEs and Firefoxes of the world.
My initial reaction - I like it!
To give you an analogy; I have, in the recent past, wanted to have a cell phone that would just let me receive and place phone calls. I really am not looking for all the bells and whistles like a camera, music player, radio and so forth. Just a phone. This browser, it seems, would let me do that in the internet world. A browser, without a lot of the gizmos (like, for instance, Firefox's or IE's add-ons), that would just let me browse! You say it sounds simple? I say it sounds practical!
Try to download it and see what you think. Where would you find it? Well - Google it!

It's pretty cool.
Did you download and try to use Chrome?
Yes, i did. I like it too... Between Firefox and IE, I liked FF a lot more. I think Chrome (although I've used it only for a day) is better than FF. Like you said a browser without the bells and whistles.
Here are some things I noticed and liked:
Pages load faster - that's perceptible.
FF and IE forced you to use the mouse a lot. I'm a KeyBoard person. FF or IE would put focus on some fields (such as on a textbox) rather than on the frame, so scrolling using your KB was impossible. But Chrome developers seem to have given it some thought. For e.g, on IE go to Yahoo.com and try scrolling (without using mouse). Cant do it. On Chrome you can.
I'm not a big fan of tabbing. Mainly because FF would decrease page size to accomodate tab headings. You're used to looking at the window name not somewhere in the middle of the screen to see which tabs you are working with. I tried it on Chrome. Found it slightly better because the tabs are arranged like multiple windows. They dont have the feel of tabs in FF while still being tabs. So I may give it a go.'
Havent tried the 'porn mode' yet. Must be useful for certain folks.
Security features - Google claims this is a big improvement over FF and IE. I cant comment about it.
